Do you ever ignore your own needs because you don't want to appear difficult or demanding?
The problem is, the needs we dismiss don’t just disappear – they show up elsewhere and cause us problems.
Have a look at this Quick Tip video, or read the transcript below.
💭 Introduction: Do you ever find yourself ignoring what you need because you don’t want to be difficult or to seem demanding?
💭 Main Tip: It’s easy to dismiss our own needs, especially in the workplace. But unspoken needs don’t disappear—they just show up as frustration, resentment, or exhaustion. Recognising and acknowledging them is the first step to making sure that they’re met.
💭 Example: Imagine you regularly stay late to finish extra tasks but never mention that you need more support. Over time, you feel frustrated that no one notices. Instead, you could try saying, “I’d really love to keep this project moving forward, and I also need to set clearer boundaries with my workload. Can we explore some options for how I can do that?”
💭 Over to You: This week, take a moment to check in: Is there a need that I’ve been ignoring? See whether acknowledging it changes anything for you.
💭 Closing: Your needs matter just as much as anyone else’s even when that’s hard to believe. Let me know if this Tip resonates with you.
